London Pics

  • May. 28th, 2009 at 1:44 PM

London was amazing! I am not going to bore people with a play by play. Instead, here are some pics from our trip. We crammed alot in in our five days there. It was a good mix of historical landmarks, and partying with londoners, who are a right friendly bunch. We met some great people over the weekend. It was hard to keep up, as it is a late city- some of the bars we went to didn't close until 6am.

LONDON!!!!!!!!!!

We leave tomorrow for London!! See you all next week!!

The Hotel

  • May. 17th, 2009 at 8:12 PM

Grand opening party is this Tuesday. We had a smaller owner's party this past Thursday that went smashingly well. That was only about 50 people. Our courtyard wasn't finished yet last week. They just finished pouring the concrete yesterday. Our new fire pit/water feature thingy is about four weeks away from arriving, but we will still be able to use the courtyard for Tuesday. We better be able to be, as we have about 200 people coming, who will enjoy a DJ , free booze and food, and the newness of the the place. We have been all extremely stressed out getting everything done. Like I said, the party is Tuesday, and Thursday we leave for London! I can't wait to get away, and make it a great vacation for Steve's birthday.

I can't believe he is turning 40 next week. He looks even hotter than he did 7 years ago when I first met him! Here are some of my favorite pics of him recently of him being silly

I am still here

  • Apr. 26th, 2009 at 5:30 PM

Hi All,
I know it has been a LONG time since I have updated. I have been a busy beaver. I am going to unveil to you our new hotel- the one me and my team have been renovating for the past year (it has taken up a great deal of my time). We started with two model rooms in February of 08, went through a very long approval process with the partnership who owns the asset, started purchasing all FF&E in July, followed by the beginning of the renovation from August through March.

For the past month, we have been concentrating on the martketing and re-branding efforts. The following link is to our new website. The photos posted of the lobby and bar are computer renderings. We took professional pics last week, but they haven't been up loaded yet. As of May 5th, we are The Artmore Hotel www.artmorehotel.com

I have been keeping up reading people's posts, but not commenting or posting myself.

Another big thing that happens this month is that Steve turns 40!! It is on May 5th. Unfortunately, I can't plan anything big because our grand opening party is May 19th. I waited until after the grand opening, so on the 21st, I am marking his big birthday by taking him to London!!

I am pretty excited. It is going to be a hectic month.

I promise to update more.

The State of affairs

  • Oct. 15th, 2008 at 8:12 PM

I hate to chime in on an much discussed topic, but the current climate in this country has actually gotten worse. I would never imagine things getting this bad. I promote a hearty discourse in politics, and I think the political system that this country was founded upon is admirable. It is scary, however, to see the McCain supporters being openly hateful and fearful of Obama- calling him a Muslim, an Arab, a terrorist. Why is Muslim or Arab a four letter word that equates to evel? You are automatically a terrorist if you are Muslim? I hope it's a small minority that feel that way, but I fear it is the majority of stupid people in this country that believe that. Furthermore, are they calling him an Arab or a terrorist because they really want to call him a **gger? Is it more likely that it is veiled racism? I think for alot of the ignorant people it could be the later.

On a different note, although I despise Bush, I acutally think the movie "W" coming out now is in bad tatse. I don't think a movie like that should come out during the presidency of the subject of the film. I think it makes a mockery of the office, or should I re-phrase, a further mockery of the office as Bush has done a pretty good job doing that himself. I know Oliver Stone is very incindiary, and I happen to like a number of his movies, I just think it is disrespectful and opportunistic of him to release it now. What I mean by opportunistic is that perhaps there is more interest and press in the movie because it is being released now, and not after Bush's presidency comes to an end.

omg I'm in Love - The Noisettes

  • Oct. 13th, 2008 at 9:52 PM

This girl is a ***kin rock star. The Noisettes broke big last year in their hometown of London with their first release "What's the time Mr. Wolf" They have a new album coming out soon, and hopefully it will lead to bigger things here. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the lead singer/bass player Shingai Shoniwa is a born rock star! I am going out and buying this tomorrow

What I took away from the debate

  • Oct. 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 PM

1. Palin was well rehearsed, and an can be charming, and an excellent speaker. This is dangerous, because there are so many stupid people out there who believe her

2. Biden did very well, and I enjoyed listening to him as well

3. Dissapointing to hear that they BOTH will not support gay marriage. Why is gay marriage such an issue in this day and age.? How do we "diminsh the legitimacy" of hererosexual marriage?  I am hopeful that what Biden means is that an Obama presidency will not ammend the constitution, but will certainly not block more states from recognizing gay marriages.

4. At one point, when Biden was talking about his wife's years of service as a teacher, Palin answered that "her true reward will be in heaven" What the fuck is that? That infuriates me. I cannot stand god and relgion being brought into politics.

I can't wait for the debate

  • Sep. 30th, 2008 at 9:53 PM

I am looking forward to Thursday's comedy fest known as the Vice Presidential debate. I have to laugh in order not to cry at some of the outrageous things coming out of her mouth. It is scary, and the swell of the religious right in this country makes it feel like the 80's all over again. I don't ever want religion and government intertwined, and clearly, the two cannot be seperated in regards to Palin. This is a quote from her addressing the congregation at her church:

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending soldiers out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan." –Sarah Pailn, on the Iraq war, speaking to students at the Wasilla Assembly of God, June 2008.

No wonder people from other countries hate the U.S. I love this country, and I am not unpatriotic, but where do we get off thinking that "God" loves us best because we are Americans?

Maybe it''s the mystique that has surrounded his life over the years, but I have become utterly fascinated with him. He died pretty much an unknown in 1974, and unbenknownst to me, his three albums have gone on to become classics to music lovers around the world. I have heard of him, but never took a close listen until one of his tunes popped up on my Pandora player. The purity of his voice, his unique style of playing, his lyrics and song writing, all beyond reproach. It's a shame the world lost him so young, but most of the best artists are tortured souls anyway.  Take a listen,

I have been talking about this musician to some of my friends in the past couple of weeks. It's nice to be excited about something in contemporary music, and to hear pieces of music that have a timeless sound to them. I know there are many of you have heard of him, or who are fans already. This is for the folks who haven't. I am trying to convert some more people over, as this puts to shame anything playing on the radio these days that is "popular". (but that is not very hard to do)

Please watch this. More people should to see how incompetent this woman is. Towards the end of the interview, he really skewers her.

I am B

  • Sep. 11th, 2008 at 11:40 PM

Dear readers, if anyone on my friend's list enjoys reading, please read "The Story of B" by Daniel Quinn. I finally got around to finishing it. I posted about it previously. It really encapsulates everything I have ever believed about religion, and how we operate as a society. Daniel Quinn expressed alot of the things I have felt in a far more eloquent and intelligent way. I would like to share with you the following passage:

When they say to you, "B is the Antichrist," here's what you should say to them. Say to them, "Yes, you're right-absolutely right. B means to steal the hearts of the people away from you so that the world may live. B means to gather the voices of humans all over the planet into one voice singing,"The world must live, the world must live, the world must live!" We are only one species among billions. The gods don't love us anymore than they love spiders or bears or whales or water lillies. The age of the Great Forgetting has ended, and all it's lies and delusions have been dispelled. Now we remember who we are. Our kin are not cherubim, seraphim, thrones, principalities, and powers. Our kin are mayflies, lemurs, snakes, eagles, and badgers. The blinding we suffer in the Great Forgetting has abated, so we no longer imagine that Man was ill-made. We no longer imagine that the gods botched their work when it came to us. We no longer think they know how to make every single thing in the whole vast universe except a human being. The blinding we suffered in the Great Forgetting has passed, so we can no longer believe that suffering is the lot the gods had in mind for us. We can no longer believe that death is sweet release to our true destiny. We no longer yearn for the nothingness of nirvana. We no longer dream of wearing crowns of gold in the royal court of heaven.

Say to them, "You're right to see that we're straying from the path of salvation. We're straying from the path exactly as you always feared we might. But listen, we're not straying from the path of salvation for the sake of sin and corruption, as you always imagined we might. We are straying from the path because we remember that we once belonged to the world and were content in that belonging. We're straying from the path of salvation-but not for love of vice and wickedness as you contemptuously imagined we might. We're straying from the path of salvation for love of the world, as you never once dreamed in a thousand years of dreaming.

Updates

  • Sep. 11th, 2008 at 11:29 PM

I can't  even begin to describe how incredibly busy work has been since I have gotten back from vacation. I am dealing with multiple contractors, last minute design changes, delivery schedules, etc.  All of the necessary tasks that a renovation implies. On top of that, I am dealing with the re-branding, imaging, and marketing that we will undertake. That part of the project is at least more of a team effort. On top of that, I am preparing the 2009 budget- so I am in spreadsheet hell. In order to prepare a sound budget, you typically look at historical data, and upcoming trends, and demand indicators. I am doing that, however,  throwing some of it to the wind as we expect to exponentially increase our rate, and add new sources of revenue. Increased rate and new revenue channels also means increases in expenses, so budgeting has been alot more fun. On top of that, end of month reporting (August) is due tomorrow. Lastly, on Top of ALL of this- I still have a hotel to run, which always comes with it's share of challenges.

I needed to get out tonight to clear my head. I went to Starbucks to finish reading "The Story of B- an Adventure of Mind and Spirit" by Daniel Quinn. I am forever changed. I am posting about it seperately.

It's nice to be back home

  • Sep. 1st, 2008 at 2:34 PM

I got in last night from our vacation. We had an amazing week. Due to Gustav, we did not get to see Grand Cayman or Jamaica, so they re-routed us North to The Bahamas instead. Besides that surprise, we had some great times. We got to see the Mayan Ruins of Tumur in Cozumel, Mexico, and I got to Parasail on Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. We also went to Atlantis in Nassau, the Bahamas. The best part of the week was getting to spend time with Steve and my family. The last 10 days was the longest stretch of time we have spent together since November, and it was fantastic. I miss him already. This was also the first time my family has really spent an extended period of time with Steve, and with us together, and it all just worked out wonderfully. Alot of great memories. Here are some pics:

VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aug. 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 AM

I haven't posted this yet, and the time has really gotten away from me- I am leaving for VACATION today!!!
Steve and myself are going on a cruise with my family. We weren't crazy about being trapped on a boat with my family for 7 days, but my parents would have been really disappointed if I didn't go.  It couldn't be coming at a better time. We haven't had a full blown vacation in years, and we are both stressed in our careers.

It is a cruise of the Western Carribean stopping in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios. In attendance are me and Steve, my parents, my sister and her husband, and my brother, his wife, and my two nephews. Exciting! I am looking forward to some quiet time out on the ocean with Steve as we don't get to spend alot of time together. I am also looking forward to re-connecting with my family - especially with my two nephews as they have grown up so fast. The boat leaves port Miami on Sunday. We are leaving tonight to spend the weekend at the hotel the company I work for manages in Miami. I will be back in Atlanta on Sunday the 31st, and will back to work on Tuesday the 2nd. Hopefully I will have some fun pics to post when I return. Hope you all have a great Labor Day!

Items to retire

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Here is a list of itmes that gay guys (or any guy) for that matter in Atlanta should really retire. I tend to vomit in my mouth a little at the site of the following:

1. I Don't know what came first- the Ed Hardy Tee, or all of the "Affliction" tees. It really started with mostly African American guys wearing them, and then it spread into the gays- especially the ones who "try" to look "butch. "Well, my t-shirt has a skull on it, of course I'm butch" (and I have a tribal tattoo, silly!) You can barely enjoy a nice gay brunch without the sight of a group of gays walking in, half of them sporting these things. The only thing you are "afflicted" with is bad taste. See pic for detail

Affliction Screenprint T-Shirt

I am tired of seeing these shirts!!! There is an even more offensive and gayer version, where the shirt is a v-neck, but really looks like a scoop neck blouse. Coupled with a conch shell necklace from Abercrombie, it doesn't get any gayer than that. Please make them stop.

2. Next is "I borrowed my sisters jeans, Don't I look good in them? See pic for example. You know the ones I am talking about, with the button pockets on the ass. This pic does not do a good job of showing how tight these jeans are usually worn among the gays. Hi- I can see your g-string.  Guys, please give your sister her jeans back!:

True Religion Men's "Billy" Super T Jeans

3. I have noticed more frequently this summer that there are an inordinate amount of people who wear sunglasses indoors. I am all about sunglasses when I am driving, or out and about- you know, in places with direct sunlight. However, when I step indoors, and try to talk to someone, I take them off! It's really not that brite inside that you have to keep the glasses on. My inner critic sees this, and immediately whispers "douche bag" in the direction of the offending Sunglass wearer.

4. I am tired of hearing "Guuurrrlll!" Please stop. Retire that immediately.

5. Lastly, the guys that smoke like my mom did when I was growing up. Arm raised to Jesus. Wrist bent back. Cigarette held precariously between two fingers. Other arm folded over in the crook of the cigarette holding arm.

I am not pretending to be the butchest person on the planet, but there just seems to be alot of people  trying way too hard. Just "be", whatever that may be. Butch, fem, queer, dyke. I am just over all the affectations, rituals, and accessories.

Yay for commercialism!!!

  • Aug. 12th, 2008 at 10:46 PM

As I watching the Olympics this evening, a commercial for the Chevy Malibu came on, and could it be playing along in the commercial a bastardized version of "Lazy Eye" by the Silversun Pickups? Why yes it was. I googled it while I was in shock, and found something about it on someone's blog. Quite bizarre. Their album "Carnavas" was one of my favorite releases of 2008. It is a strange choice for them to exchange their artistic integrity for some quick cash, but I guess that must be a tough choice for an emerging act to make.

Floater

  • Aug. 12th, 2008 at 8:05 PM

These guys should be bigger! They have a strong local cult following in the Pacific Northwest where they are from. I have been enjoying them since about 2003. They have been around since 1994. If I ever get out that way, I would love to catch them as they are a great live act
